Witnessing cherry blossoms in Stockholm

Stockholm, the city of history and innovations, may not be a top destination on your bucket-list but it, definitely, is a fascinating city that attracts a great number of tourists in search of a glimpse of the Scandinavia. If we keep aside its interesting history of about 800 years, Stockholm is still a global city that is know to the world as the land of technical innovations and Eco-friendly measures it is taking to combat climate changes. But there is another thing the city is gradually getting recognition for; its breathtaking cherry blossoms. For those who can’t travel to the Sakura paradises like Japan and China, a short trip to Stockholm can be the consolation. Even though the blossoms seen here are nowhere as grand as the original land of Sakura, it is an amazing sight to behold those traces of pink here and there in the city.

So after putting off a trip to Stockholm for about three years, we finally managed to get there and the timing couldn’t have been any better as it was the season of cherry blossoms. I had seen gorgeous pictures of cherry blossom in Stockholm before and had a secret wish to witness it first hand. But this trip was so unplanned and made at the last moment that I had almost forgotten about the blossoms. When I remembered it after seeing the shores of Stockholm, all I had to do was to dial a friend who lives in Stockholm and she gave me all the details.

Kungsträdgården, a beautiful park located not very far from Stockholm’s central railway station was our first stop to see some cherry blossoms and the park didn’t disappoint. We were just in time to witness this thick blanket of pink and the overall enthusiasm of the visitors trying to capture the beauty in their cameras. A quiet stroll would have been perfect but you can’t have this place for yourself as it is the most popular place of hangout for the city dwellers; cherry blossom or not.

As usual the weather was a disappointment. As it changed moods within short intervals I was becoming grumpy having missed out on the opportunity to take ‘sunny and pink’ pictures. But the dark mood captured here doesn’t look that bad either. Nevertheless, I thank my stars each time I witness something so magical like these pretty blooms.

Our second stop was, Fjällgatan View point from where one can see the skyline of Stockholm for free. But more than the viewpoint, we were interested in the line of pretty cherry trees in full bloom located near the view point right in front of Sofia Church. Here, there was nobody to disturb the view and the weather had cleared out for a while for us to soak our souls in the beauty of the pink blossoms.

Later, on our way to the airport, I saw pretty cherry trees here and there and realized that while in Stockholm you don’t have to go very far to enjoy sweet Spring blossoms including the cherry ones. So here’s a post dedicated to my lucky day of sakura hunting in the beautiful city of Stockholm. For those not wanting to venture too far, just look around the Stockholm Central Station and luck might be on your side.

Also the perfect time to visit Stockholm to witness cherry blossoms is very short as the blossoms last roughly from the last week of April to the 1st week of May.

I hope you enjoy these pictures!
