Helsinki winter garden: one of the must-visits

Helsinki, unlike other European Capital cities, is not a very crowded place although tourism in the city has picked up in recent times. This gives its residents ample opportunity to have their moments of quiet right in the heart of the city. As I have written innumerable times before, Helsinki is blessed with abundant nature. Even then, a convenient combination of both nature and some indoor warmth is desperately felt sometime, especially in winters. Which is why the locals throng here at Helsinki winter garden to enjoy some sun and nature wrapped in warmth inside its cozy glass building. But do not be fooled by the name! This garden is open all round the year and to me it is one of the most beautiful indoor spaces in Helsinki.
Blame me for it later but I am in a kind of a dual mind here. Even though I want this paradise to be as quiet as it is on regular week days, I cannot help but recommend it to tourists who want to discover something extra in Helsinki. This little tropical oasis has been one of the best places in Helsinki to enjoy a little picnic among tropical plants and flowers. This garden is a special hit in Christmas times when the bloom inside the garden makes up for the dark and depressing winter. They have special Christmas decorations too!
The garden was founded in 1893 and has been open to nature-loving visitors free of charge.
Even though this place is very popular among the locals, I recently realized that it might not be the case with the tourists while working for Helsinki Tourist Information Center as a trainee. So my recommendations always included this place as many tourists wanted to find a free but cozy indoor place to rest in between their sightseeing sprees.
Apart from its array of interesting plants, the garden offers nice tables and chairs so that you can bring your own food and enjoy a comfortable meal here. There is a garden cafeteria mostly open in holiday season. Also, there is a little fountain where you can see colourful fishes. So if the weather shows no sign of Spring you know where to head to.
Moreover, what could be a better place to have an indoor photo-shoot? But mind it, no high end photography equipment (such as studio lights, reflectors etc) is allowed except for a camera.
I am sharing some of the pictures I took this winter but I hope to take some summer pictures when the greenery of it reaches its peak. But I hope you will enjoy these pictures as well.
